Emirates Boeing 777-31H A6-EMW operating EK521 Thiruvanamthapuram – Dubai appears to have attempted to go around from low altitude at Dubai but failed to establish a positive rate of climb and touched down on the runway either with gear up, or with sufficient force to cause a gear collapse. The aircraft came to rest with the #2 engine completely separated from the aircraft. All passengers and crew were evacuated safely before the aircraft subsequently caught fire. This will be Emirates first hull loss.

The aircraft was delivered new to Emirates7th March 2003 and last underwent a major maintenance input at Dubai from 12th – 29th May 2015.
